No, it is even more complicated: if Romania draws, then Italy-Netherlands cannot draw (see rule 7.08), the winner will be decided in a penalty shoot-out. This means, that a Romanian draw sents them out of the tournament but a defeat by no more then 2 goals and a goalless draw between Italy and France (which is now possible, as THREE teams would have 2 points after finishing all matches in the group, and so rule 7.08 does not apply) actually makes them qualify! So in this special situation Romania must seek an own goal to qualify! Isn’t that the most bizarre situation in a competetitive football match ever?

Well, saying he scored only that goal vs Germany in WC 2006 is blasphemy..It was when Alex came in, the game which was even until then proved to be going under Lippi’s way..Alex was instrumental in bringing that attack leading to Grosso’s goal from Pirlo and he scored a masterful goal in the end too.Definitely the man of the match along with Pirlo…Besides,the legend never really played in that tournament.Lippi prefered Totti instead and i can confidently say that Totti however talented he is, was never really brilliant in the tournament…
Alex scored the one very important goal vs Mexico in 2002,he was very good vs Korea except for poor refereeing mistakes leading to the Korean victory…
I agree that for the talent Alex has, he never really performed at his best for Azzurri as he does with Juventus..But saying he hasnt done anything for Azzurri is too much and 27 goals in 85 matches just 8 behind Gigi RIva’s record is not something to be discarded…That too playing on the left wing,as an ss and as substitute…He is a legend and is the most talented Italian footballer in the last decade..One among the all time best for sure!!
I trust Alex today and he will carry Azzurri to the QFs..Forza Il Capitano..!!!
