Donadoni should stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation.
I think this is the team he will start against the Dutch.
Buffon
Grosso,
Materazzi,
Barzagli,
Zambrotta,
Gattuso,
Pirlo,
De Rossi,
Camoranesi,
Toni,
Di Natale
This would be a strong team. My only reservation is Camorenesi. I think the Argentian-born Juventus man has only ever put in a marginal performance at best for the Azzuri. His place in the team is better served by Cassano. Everyone talks about Antonio’s Cassanatas but he was the leading Italian performer at the last Euro tournament. Cassano adds eccentricity to the Azzurri’s game.
There also seems to be concern with Matrix’s selection. His fitness and form are eschew, but he offers the team big-match experience. My preference is Matrix over Chiellini.
Look for some good set pieces from the Italians. The control that spot-kick-takers like Pirlo, Cassano and Del Piero offer mixed with the aerial domination of Luca Toni and Italy’s centre backs should produce some good goals.
I read with interest that some pundits are picking the Don to go with a 4 -1 – 4 -1 formation. Whatever the formation expect Gattuso or De Rossi to play in front of the defence. Pirlo will have license to roam. Luca Toni will be the pivot with two supporting strikers who have the guile to bring the ball into attacking positions from the midfield.
